Next, we’ll ascend the slopes of Poás Volcano National Park, where the air cools and the landscape transforms into a stunning cloud forest.
At 2,708 meters (8,885 feet) above sea level, Poás Volcano is one of Costa Rica’s most spectacular active volcanoes. Its enormous crater—over a mile wide—offers breathtaking views of the sulfuric fumaroles that rise from deep within the earth. A short walk through the trails will take you to the serene Botos Lagoon, surrounded by lush vegetation and teeming with life.
After the Volcano: Nature’s Paradise at La Paz
Our journey continues to the enchanting La Paz Waterfall Gardens, where you’ll savor a delicious buffet lunch (rated 4 Forks by the Costa Rican Tourism Board), featuring a variety of authentic Costa Rican dishes and international favorites.

In Sarchí, you’ll discover the artistry and creativity that have made this town famous worldwide. You’ll have the chance to see the largest ox cart in the world, a magnificent two-story wooden structure painted in vivid, traditional colors. This remarkable piece of craftsmanship, made from cedar wood and completed in 70 days, even holds a Guinness World Record!
From Cultural Heartland to Natural Wonder
As we continue our journey, the scenery transforms into a lush mosaic of pineapple plantations, mango groves, ornamental gardens, and cattle ranches—a glimpse into Costa Rica’s rich agricultural heritage.
Soon we’ll arrive at the picturesque town of La Fortuna, where a delicious lunch awaits in a cozy restaurant offering spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano.
Then, prepare to witness the grandeur of Arenal Volcano National Park—a perfect cone-shaped giant that dominates the landscape. Once thought to be dormant, Arenal famously erupted in 1968 and has since become one of Costa Rica’s most visited natural attractions. On clear days, you may even see white plumes of smoke rising from its summit.
Relaxation at Ecotermales Hot Springs
After exploring, unwind in one of the region’s most serene natural spas—Ecotermales Hot Springs, a true hidden gem nestled in the rainforest. Here, you’ll experience the healing and rejuvenating power of volcanic thermal waters that flow naturally from underground springs.
Ecotermales features six beautiful pools with temperatures ranging from 37°C to 41°C (99°F to 106°F), along with a refreshing natural pool, waterfall, and forest trails that invite peaceful exploration.
