CST - SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

How can I be a responsible and environmental-conscious traveler:

Traveling in Costa Rica is an amazing experience and we would like to offer the future generations the chance to get to know this Paradise too, so we kindly ask you to consider the following:

- Tropical Pass is an environmentally-conscious agency, and we would like to motivate you to participate actively with us to avoid contamination in all of its senses and to protect our natural resources.

- If necessary, get as much information about sustainability prior to your trip, and about how you can contribute. Please do not hesitate to ask as many questions as needed.

- At your hotel, please remember to turn off the lights and the air-contitioning when leaving the room.

- Avoid wasting water when taking a shower or brushing your teeth.

- Have respect for all different cultures and traditions. We encourage you to enjoy each experience as something new and different. Do not critizice or compare to your own traditions and enjoy each experience as something new and different. Learn a few words of our local language such as the Costa Rica-isms, this will help you during your stay as well as capture the sympathy of everybody around you.

- Taste the local food for an even more satisfying travel experience. This way you will also collaborate with local communities.

- Please be considerate not to litter on the streets, national parks, reserves, rivers, or beaches of Costa Rica. Recycle as much as possible. Look throughout the hotels and communities for the corresponding recycling containers and use them to deposit your trash.

- When walking through our national parks and reserves, please do not leave the marked paths and trails. They are marked for your safety.

- Remember that while walking through our parks and reserves to maintain the noise level to a minimum so as not to scare the wildlife – you will have a greater chance to spot them in their natural habitat.

- Please protect our planet, our animals and our plants.

- Do not buy souvenirs made of endangered species, precious woods, shells or archeological artifacts; it is illegal in Costa Rica.

- In the national parks try to imitate the chameleon, always dress as much as posible like the colors of the surroundings.

- Avoid using an excess amount of quemical bug repellent and perfumes in natural places.

- Always look where you walk. It is much safer for you, and there are many trails of ants and insects as well as small animals that can be harmed by a simple miss-step.

- Do not feed wild animals under any circumstance.

- When buying bottled water, we ask whenever possible, that you try to refill the same bottle with potable drinking water to avoid polluting the environment with plastic water bottles.

- Inquire at each hotel, each tour, and each park about how you can become a more responsible traveler in Costa Rica.

- May we also remind you of Tropical Pass’ policy against sexual exploitation of minors in Costa Rica. We invite you to read our Code of Conduct.
