The “seat-in-bus” is a very comfortable way to travel around Costa Rica. It is a shuttle bus service for tourist’s running back and forth on about 60 established routes all over Costa Rica. Aboard the air-conditioned buses you'll have comfort and security to your destination at almost every tourist-interest place around Costa Rica. The seat-in-buses have fixed departures. Passengers will be picked up at their hotel and brought to their next booked hotel (door to door service). Short stops are made on each route, and change of vehicles during these stops is possible. DRIVING ON YOUR OWN IN COSTA RICA You will find different types of vehicles for rent, such as four wheel drives, automobiles, vans, limousines, and more. Most vehicles have air conditioning. Manual gears are the norm, but automatic gears can be obtained as well . If you are likely to be going off the main paved roads, or are driving during the rainy season when potholes are at their worst, seriously consider a 4WD vehicle. The smallest, such as the Daihatsu Terios, are not much more expensive than 2WD vehicles. Below you will find a great variety of self-drive circuits. Some will take the tourist to the highlights of the country and others into less visited areas but not less interesting.
